If your pooch is anything like mine, he is probably LOVING all the extra walks and attention that have come with social distancing.
When life returns to normal, our pets won’t understand why we’re suddenly gone all day. An abrupt change in schedule can trigger the development of separation anxiety in some dogs.
Set your pooch up for success now while you have the time at home. Practice leaving him alone each day. Start with just a few minutes at a time and increase the duration slowly. Develop an association between being alone and good things. Every time you leave the house, you can offer your dog a puzzle toy stuffed with favorite treats. Always be calm and don’t say good bye when you leave and don’t make a big deal when you come home.
Practicing now will set your pooch up for success when the world returns to normal.
